Hunting Island is a small barrier island located off the coast of Beaufort, South Carolina. The entire island is part of the South Carolina State Park system. Visitors can enjoy 5 miles of undeveloped beaches, sub-tropical forest, marshland, lighthouse, salt water lagoon, and ocean inlet. The historic town of Beaufort is a short drive away and has plenty of dining and shopping options along the riverfront or downtown.

Hunting Island Lighthouse:
The Lighthouse on Hunting Island is the only lighthouse in South Carolina that allows visitors access. Climb the stairs up 130 feet for panoramic views of the coastline and the surrounding forest. From the lighthouse you can also access some of the park's hiking and biking trails. |
Nature Trails:
The Island Bike/Hike Trail is an 8 mile trail for both walking and bicycling. There are also walking/nature trails from the campground and lighthouse areas. The Marsh Boardwalk trail lets you walk around the marsh on an elevated boardwalk. The park's maritime forest is famous for being the filming location for the Vietnam War scenes in the movie Forrest Gump. |
Beaufort River Cruise:
Cruises of the Beaufort River and other coastal tours depart daily from the Beaufort waterfront area. Various boat operators offer a variety of tours including historical tours, dolphin cruises, fishing trips, and bird watching. Cruise times range from 1 1/2 hours to full day trips. |
