Things to do:
Harbor Town Lighthouse & Museum
The white and red striped Harbor Town Lighthouse has become a symbol of Hilton Head Island. The lighthouse is located in Harbor Town in the Sea Pines Plantation. For a small admission fee, visitors can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse and stop at each level to see exhibits on the island’s history. There is also a unique lighthouse themed gift shop inside. |
Bicycling
Bring your bike from home or rent from one of 30 bicycle shops to enjoy peddling the 60 miles of trails on the island. The multi-use trails connect with beaches, golf courses, nature preserves, shopping, and dining areas. The island has received a Gold Level Bicycle Friendly Community Rating from the American League of Bicyclists. |
Kayak Tours
We booked the Outside Hilton Head 2 Hour Guided Kayak Tour which leaves from Shelter Cove Marina. There are single and double kayaks available for rent and life jackets provided. Our guide led us around Broad Creek through the salt marsh and helped us spot wildlife, such as bottlenose dolphins, oysters, and many species of birds. |
Dolphin Watching Cruise
There are many companies that offer visitors the opportunity to get out on the water and watch the playful Dolphins that live around Hilton Head. We booked a Zodiac boat trip with H2O Sports. Cruise around Calibogue Sound and have the chance to see dolphins up close when they come to swim beside your boat. |
Hunting Island & Beaufort
Take a day trip to historic Beaufort and Hunting Island. Beaufort is located on Port Royal Island one hour north of Hilton Head. Visitors can take a horse-drawn carriage tour through the city’s historic district, or a cruise down the Beaufort River. After lunch, drive out to Hunting Island to see the lighthouse and walk some of the hiking trails. Forrest Gump fans will see many of the movie locations, including the Vietnam scenes, which were filmed on Hunting Island. |
